Psalm 19:7-11 NLT
[7] The instructions of the LORD are perfect, reviving the soul.
The decrees of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple.
[8] The commandments of the LORD are right, bringing joy to the heart.
The commands of the LORD are clear, giving insight for living.
[9] Reverence for the LORD is pure, lasting forever.
The laws of the LORD are true; each one is fair.
[10] They are more desirable than gold, even the finest gold.
They are sweeter than honey, even honey dripping from the comb.
[11] They are a warning to your servant,
a great reward for those who obey them.

Good Morning!
This is one acronym that has been used for B.I.B.L.E. – Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth. God, in all of His wisdom and majesty, gave us His Word so that we have a clear direction for this life. I think about all of the times when I have had to put things together, like a new grill or putting together a bike on Christmas Eve years ago for the big surprise on Christmas morning. If I had been given a box of parts and nuts and bolts with no instruction, I would have no idea how to put these together and would never be able to put it together properly.

In the same way, we all need instruction for our lives. We go to school K-12 for our basic instructions according to the world’s measure. Then some go to college and others go on to higher education, all the while we are getting instructions to learn more and more about life and vocations and how to “be” in this complicated world. All of that is just fine, but there is a higher standard of instructions that God gave us before the beginning of time, as John 1 tells us…

John 1:1-2 NLT
[1] In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. [2] He existed in the beginning with God.

God’s Word is truly our lifeline to heaven. We would have no way of knowing anything about God without His instructions to us. This is not something that we should take lightly. As an example, if you had a teacher in high school that said, “if you follow my simple instruction to read one page from your textbook daily, you will pass this class with straight A’s as you are going to get a daily test on the text read the day before. But if you don’t read the text, you will fail.” I think all of us would be inclined to read that textbook daily to make sure we pass the class. It is a simple task to get the instruction we need for the tests that we face the next day.

Likewise, it is a simple task to read God’s Word daily and follow the instructions He has for our lives so that we will “pass the test.” And in this context, passing the test is more about making right choices in our lives, letting His Word revive our souls, giving us clear insight for living and sharing this insight with others when opportunities arise.

God is good. Period. We know this because of His great love for us that we learn by reading His Word. His goodness and mercy allows us to be His heirs as children of God and we only learn of the benefits of being His heir by reading about Him and His ways. If we didn’t have God’s Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth, we all would be like the bike put together without instructions. It probably wouldn’t rideable or it would fall apart after you start peddling and wouldn’t be of much good to anyone.

So please be encouraged to read God’s Word daily. It is good and reviving for our souls and it brings joy and life into our hearts.
I love you and am praying for you today!
Dad

Joshua 22:5 NLT
[5] But be very careful to obey all the commands and the instructions that Moses gave to you. Love the LORD your God, walk in all his ways, obey his commands, hold firmly to him, and serve him with all your heart and all your soul.”

Isaiah 40:8 NLT
[8] The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever.”

Matthew 5:18 NLT
[18] I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved.

1 Peter 1:24-25 NLT
[24] As the Scriptures say, “People are like grass; their beauty is like a flower in the field. The grass withers and the flower fades. [25] But the word of the Lord remains forever.” And that word is the Good News that was preached to you.
